Green Apple

Green Apple is by far the largest and most advanced electronic data conversion business in China and possibly in the world. Green Apple was formed and registered in 1990 in Changsha City, China. Over the past 13 years, Green Apple has converted into electronic format more than 10,000 titles of the most popular pieces of Chinese literature (approximately five million pages, or three billion Chinese characters), and the 25 major Chinese newspapers, for their entire daily circulation (in some cases for over fifty years), including the People's Daily and Army News Papers, (approximately ten million pages), and 20 additional Chinese periodicals. Green Apple controls the publishing rights for these electronic books, magazines and newspapers by assignment from the Publishing Bureau of the Central Government of China.

With over 13 years of operating experience, Green Apple is uniquely qualified in the digital conversion business. With a consistently low cost structure it efficiently achieves a final output accuracy of 99.99 % using proprietary software packages. The key reason for Green Apple's success, however, is its ability to re-create or re-design the artwork of original printed materials, especially for graphic and scientific notation intense products. Green Apple's 35 computer literate art designers comprise "the brains" of its operation, while 25 computer engineers technically supervise act as supervisors. Green Apple's highly specialized work force is an asset to eBookMatrix. They have functioned as a cohesive team for many years, and cannot be duplicated quickly or easily.

Since its inception, Green Apple has successfully completed the digitization of more than four million pages of printed materials, or about ten billion printed words, and millions of pictures, illustrations, and layouts for various projects. Its most significant product is the "Family Library Collection" electronically converted by Green Apple in 1998, and offered as a set of ten CD's containing 3,000 of the greatest Chinese literary works in eight categories, including literature, history, art, economics, philosophy, plus an encyclopedia and a section containing classic foreign literature translated into Chinese. The "Family Library Collection" consists of approximately 170,000 pages and one billion Chinese characters. It is the largest electronic publication ever published in China and possibly in the world. Green Apple was solely responsible for the design, layout, artwork reconfiguration, software development and digital conversion of this eBook collection.

Recently Green Apple produced a new product: all daily issues for 50 years of the "Southern Daily" from Guangzhou City, the most popular newspaper in China. The newspaper has a circulation of 10 million subscribers. Additional sizable projects are underway, including the entire collection of all daily issues for 52 years of the "People Daily" in PDF format, about 180,000 pages in newspaper size, or about 720,000 pages in book size; the entire collection of 3,000 years of Chinese history books translated into modern language, about 7 GB of stored data. Green Apple's current data conversion capability is approximately 250,000 pages (or 500,000,000 words) per month. This capacity can readily be increased to accommodate quickly as many eBook conversions as desired.

In addition to the performance of the archiving services to the society, Green Apple started to market its ebooks CD products when eBookMatrix joined the operation about three years ago. Initially, Green Apple introduced to the Chinese markets for two testing products, namely the "100 Titles of Chinese Classical Literature" and the "100 Titles of Foreign Translated Literature." The market-testing program was overwhelmed with success. There were a total of 20,000 copies sold for the trial products within the very first month. Armed with this success, Green Apple subsequently designed and printed more than 60 different products. The current monthly sales volume for the eBooks CDs exceeds 100,000 copies. eBookMatrix has been racing to fill a demand that seems to be unstoppable. 

During its 13 years of operations, Green Apple has only provided digital conversion services to the major newspapers and publishers in China. In the beginning of 2001, eBookMatrix began of marketing Green Apple's data conversion capability in the United States with rapid success. The offered services included of archiving conversion of printed materials into digital format, and the provision of multilingual language translation.
